Myintrotoletyounknow...

A bit of background for anyone who may just be stumbling across this while randomly stumbling 'bout the Internet. My name is Michaelangelo McCullar, and for four years I was first a columnist, then a reviewer, and finally the editor of PopcornJunkies.com, which is now known as Inside Pulse Movies. About two years ago I decided to take a short hiatus from the site, which turned into two years of complete inactivity. But I find myself with the itch to write once more, and decided rather than go back to my former site, I'd strike out on my own. Those guys are doing great without me there, and I wish them all the best of luck.

So, some things to know...

My philosophy on film is that it is first and foremost an entertainment medium. I could care less about the artistic merits of a film. Not that I don't recognize the potential of film as an art form, but what's the point of a movie being an artistic masterpiece if it's boring as hell? I dig action flicks and the Shaw Brothers. I can talk for hours about the greatness of The Warriors. Give me Touch of Evil over Citizen Kane, Goodfellas over The Godfather, and 36 Chambers of Shaolin over Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Let it be known that I worship at the altar of John Woo, Steven Spielberg, and Martin Scorsese.  James Cameron used to have an altar until he made a $200 million chick flick.

This does not mean I don't enjoy well-crafted, well-acted films.  My favorite film of all time is 12 Angry Men.  But, in my opinion, for a movie to truly be great, it must be rewatchable.  Schindler's List is one of the most powerful films ever made.  It shook me to my core.  But, guess what?  Seeing it once was enough.  Compare that to Saving Private Ryan.  Another powerful film, but eminently rewatchable.  So, were I to rank Spielberg's films, I'd put Ryan ahead of List.  I'm sure that's heresy to most film connoisseurs, but that's just me.

Now, I'm sure you're wondering just what's the "More" in Michaelangelo's Movie Reviews and More.  Well, I'm glad you asked.  I won't just be writing about movies I see in the theater.  I'll also be writing about movies I catch on DVD and my Netflix feed on my XBOX 360.  Plus, I'll also be writing about some of my favorite TV shows.  And, if anything pop-culture related catches my eye, I might feel obliged to make a comment or ten on here.

So, in the immortal words of Redman:

"Sit back relax/
Let me rip to the funk track/
And press rewind/
If I haven't blown your mind"

  1. I will be looking forward to reading your reviews. I totally agree with on Schindler's List and disagree on Goodfellas over the Godfather.
